Post 15: Letting go of how things are supposed to look

“The amount you suffer in life is directly related to how much you are resisting the fact that things are they way they are” ~ Bill Harris

There is a principle of happiness in the art of living with awareness that I learned a long time ago, and that was the principle of letting whatever happens be ok. At first glance this may seem like a lazy or not caring way to be. But to interpret it correctly means to allow for the fluidity of life, to not resist what is and to practice a non-attachment to an outcome.

Post 14: Is life happening to you or for you?

The saying that life is either happening to you or for you has been around for while now but it’s wisdom holds true.

We either think that we have no control over our lives or that we can exert some control. One puts us in victim mode, the other puts us in design your own life mode.

Post 13: Self Mastery

Definition; Self mastery is often defined as self-control, the ability to exert a strong will against our impulses to steer our future to one of our choosing. ... Self mastery requires having a vision for your future self. And harnessing the will to realise that vision. We learn to master ourselves by getting out of our own way.

I am going to start this topic with our perception of reality. Our entire existence is determined by the fact that we exist. I am. Non-existence is impossible. For to know existence means that it always was.

Post 12: What is Meditation?

What is Meditation?

How do you do it? Am I doing it “right”? Do I need to be “spiritual” or be guided by someone, something? If you’re like me there has been a lot of confusion surrounding meditation. I’ve tried many ways, “succeeded” but mostly “failed”. And I guess that’s the point. What I’ve concluded, there is no one way or no right or wrong method. It’s like saying there’s only one way to think a thought...it’s the journey within discovering for yourself...

Post 11: Life and the Search for Meaning

-To be satisfied in life we need something to do, someone to love and something to look forward to -

I came across this old saying from a dear friend of mine who wrote to me recently while she was in Thailand doing a month long writers programme.

It reminded me of the book “Man’s Search for Meaning” - by Viktor Frankl, which had a profound effect on me. The idea being that man’s deepest desire is to search for meaning and purpose once your basic survival needs are met.

Post 10: Living in Freelance Fantasy

If you’re in the world of full time employment and feel as though your job is just a job to pay the bills and doesn’t offer you much and feel it’s time to throw it all in, then hear me out. If your work life is mundane, routine or too stressful and you day dream about escaping the grind on a daily basis, it’s easy to fantasize about what it would be like to just quit your job and freefall into a life where you are living your dreams, whatever that may look like to you.

Post 9: The Liminal Space

There is a season for everything under the sun. A time for expansion and growth as well as a time for contraction and letting go. I always say with every experience we have, there is a beginning, the actual experience itself and then the end. It’s a natural part of life of existence in this reality.

Post 8: The True Reality of Life?

“Life is amazing. And then it’s awful. And then it’s amazing again. And in between the amazing and awful it’s ordinary and mundane and routine.” ~ L.R Knost

I’ve always loved this simple yet profound words from author L.R Knost. As much as we try to understand and comprehend the human experience sometimes simple words say so much.

Post 7: Getting Real With Yourself

Ok, it’s time to get real. With yourself. For some this can be confronting. For some it may be too difficult to be completely and brutally honest with ourselves. We may think we are being honest with ourselves but take a closer look, take a step back and observe what you really feel and think and you may be surprised.

Post 6: You Are Not Enough

How many times have you been told this? Maybe you’ve been told this many times throughout your life without even realising it. Maybe there’s a voice inside your head that tells you this all the time. Maybe you’ve been told this a few times by people who you were close to or who you thought loved you.  Maybe by your parents.
